The Learning the Shotgun course combines the fundamental and basic skills necessary for combat marksmanship with the tactical knowledge required to survive with a shotgun in a hostile environment.  This is the first level of Tactical Firearms Academy’s shotgun courses with emphasis placed on basic shooting skills and developing tactical applications for those skills.

 

Topics covered are:

 

• Safety- Administrative, range and operational carry

• 8 Fundamentals of Marksmanship

• Nomenclature

• Proper Loading Techniques

• Stance & Mount

• Patterning at 3, 7, 10, 15, 20 and 25 yards

• Target acquisition (single and multiple threats)

• Ready positions

• Shooting on the move

• CSTC qualification (Criminal Justice Standard & Training Commission Shotgun qualifier)

 

 

This is a 9 hour block of instruction comprised primarily of live fire training on an outdoor range.  Class size is kept small to permit individual instruction.  A certificate of training is awarded to those students who complete and pass the course while exhibiting competence and safe gun handling skills.

Required Items

 

• Shotgun (semi-auto or pump) with sling
• 350 rounds of birdshot, 25 rounds of 00 Buck, 50 slug rounds
• Ear protection and wrap around eye protection (Mandatory)
• Long pants with belt loops and a sturdy belt.
• Lightweight clothing and light in color, avoid black (NO tank tops or V-necks)
• Sturdy, closed toe shoes (athletic, hiking, outdoor styled shoes. NO open toe shoes)
• Spare batteries for sights and tools for sight adjustment
• Ball cap or brimmed hat
• Sunscreen
• Insect repellent
• Snacks and lunchtime meals
• Adequate water to remain hydrated
• Weapons and/or ammunition can provided by TFA upon request
